Attention, horse fans!

An adorable new foal has been tottering around the Przewalski’s horse habitat for the past few weeks: little Theresa was born on 13 April.

The Przewalski’s horse is the only true wild horse alive today. But it is an endangered species. These horses once inhabited the steppes of Asia from Kazakhstan to China, but were declared extinct in the wild in the late 1960s.

An international conservation breeding programme ensured the horse’s survival in captivity. Tierpark Berlin has been involved in the breeding and reintroduction of Przewalski’s horses since 1963. To date, a total of 17 Przewalski’s horses born at Tierpark Berlin have been reintroduced in their ancestral homeland.

More information about this conservation project can be found here.
