Update from the African penguins

Our gaggle of chicks explored their home for the first time yesterday.

Although they were a little hesitant at first, the young penguins seemed to quickly take to the unfamiliar terrain – especially the large pool, where they enjoyed a refreshing dip.

The chicks hatched in April and, until now, have been cared for out of the public eye. Now that the new arrivals have grown accustomed to solid foods, they are able to live with the rest of the penguin group. But of course, the keepers continue to make sure that the little ones get their share of fish during the feeding frenzy.
