The first arrivals

Last week two François’ langurs journeyed to Tierpark Berlin from France and the Netherlands.

The two males are the first of a total of six of these primates that will move into the new Himalayan habitat over the coming months.

In the wild, François’ langurs are endangered due to forest clearance, the spread of agriculture, and illegal hunting. There are probably no more than 2,000 individuals living in their natural habitat in Vietnam and China. We are therefore delighted that Tierpark Berlin is going to house these fascinating animals – the only ones in Germany – and join the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) for François’ langurs.

The new bachelor pad for our langurs is partly financed by donations from the charitable association Freunde Hauptstadtzoos. We are very grateful to its members, and are really looking forward to the new close-to-nature habitat. Our gallery provides an overview of the progress made on its construction so far.
