We had cameras at the ready to document the first hops, steps and jumps of our bearded vultures as they moved into their new Himalayan habitat. The pair won’t be alone for long – over the coming months, more feathered flatmates are moving in. Wondering who’s coming to shake things up? More news to follow soon…

Tierpark Berlin has kept these fascinating vultures since 1956, and from spring 2022 they are on view to visitors once again in our Himalayan habitat. All around the world, from the Pyrenees to the Himalayas, vultures play a crucial “waste disposal” role within their ecosystems. For over 30 years, Berlin’s two zoos have been involved in efforts to protect these fascinating birds and reintroduce them into their native European habitat. By 2020, more than 30 bearded vultures from Berlin had been sent to participate in the reintroduction project.
