The doors to Aquarium Berlin have been closed for around four months. Now, following the introduction of new SARS-CoV-2 regulations in the state of Berlin, it is able to reopen with strict precautions in place. The popular attraction will welcome visitors again from 13 March 2021 – but initially only annual pass holders.
“We are pleased to regain a little bit of normality with the reopening of our historic Aquarium,” says Zoo and Tierpark Director Dr Andreas Knieriem. “It is a popular attraction, especially during the colder months of the year. By initially opening exclusively for annual pass holders, we are thanking our most loyal guests for their patience and, above all, support over the past months.” Holders of an annual pass must reserve a time slot for their visit in advance via www.aquarium-berlin.de/en/tickets. To comply with the current hygiene regulations, the building’s capacity is limited to one guest per 40 m². Early booking is therefore recommended. In addition, a medical mask must be worn for the duration of the visit. The Aquarium also plans to welcome day-ticket visitors again very soon and is currently implementing measures to make that possible.
The animal houses at Zoo and Tierpark Berlin remain closed for the time being. The requirements for the reopening of these facilities are more difficult to implement, as each one presents its own issues. Some of the buildings’ passageways are fairly narrow or have dead end, while others buildings have complicated entry and exit systems. Nevertheless, work is underway to allow for at least a partial reopening of the animal houses.
Certain rules can, however, be relaxed at Zoo and Tierpark Berlin: As of 15 March 2021, for example, the highly popular animal visits are starting up again, allowing guests to experience zoo favourites like hippos and giant tortoises up close. Further information and booking options can be found at www.zoo-berlin.de/lieblingstierbesuch and www.tierpark-berlin.de/lieblingstierbesuch. The souvenir shops at both Zoo and Tierpark Berlin have also reopened, and are welcoming visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in line with the new Click & Meet concept – i.e. by prior appointment only. Appointments can be made in person or by telephone on +49 (0)30 8145 77013 (Zoo) and +49 (0)30 81 45 77 021 (Tierpark). Medical masks must be work both during animal visits and in the souvenir shops.
