The Dutch company "Ticketcounter" is operating the online ticket sales for Zoo, Aquarium and Tierpark Berlin as an external service provider (until the end of April, 2021). Unfortunately, a data theft has occurred at Ticketcounter, which also affects the data of some of our guests.
In dialogue with Ticketcounter, we have been able to largely clear up the incident. We can confirm that the only data stolen were names, e-mail addresses and details about the tickets/services purchased. No account details, passwords, telephone numbers, addresses, dates of birth, etc. were compromised. We informed the affected guests directly by e-mail.
If you have received our information mail, that your data is also affected:
As a result of the data theft, you may find spam in your email inbox. Please continue to treat your messages with extra care and do not open any links or attachments from senders you do not completely trust. These kinds of emails are often phishing scams to try to get hold of bank details. In some cases they will claim that you have won a prize. If you receive a suspicious e-mail of that nature, delete it immediately. No further steps are necessary.
We would like to thank you for your patience while we have been looking into the data breach. Of course, we understand that this has been a worrying incident. However, it is very important to us to avoid any further uncertainty by only communicating (best possible) verified information. Please bear in mind that we, too, have to rely on the information provided by Ticketcounter and the authorities. The matter has now been handed over to the legal authorities.
We deeply regret the incident and apologise for any inconvenience or unpleasantness caused, also on behalf of Ticketcounter. Please be assured that we will go to great lengths to ensure this kind of incident never occurs again. In addition, to coincide with the introduction of a new POS system Zoo, Aquarium and Tierpark Berlin will be switching to an entirely new online shop system with another provider soon and will be terminating their partnership with Ticketcounter.
