Communal living at Tierpark Berlin

New habitat for small-clawed otters, babirusas and crested macaques

The former black-necked swan habitat close to the Patagona restaurant is being converted into a shared habitat for babirusas, Sulawesi crested macaques and Asian small-clawed otters. The different species are being housed in a communal habitat to encourage the animals to interact. Both small-clawed otters and babirusas are classified as threatened on the IUCN’s Red List. Sulawesi crested macaques are even designated “Critically Endangered” and have their own European Endangered Species Programme. From spring 2022, visitors to the new habitat will also be able to explore an education trail on evolution and biodiversity.
