The dinos live on!

Good news for dino fans this Halloween: Tierpark Berlin’s Dinoworld exhibition extended until autumn 2024

Since April 2023, Tierpark Berlin has been hosting a terrifyingly terrific comeback tour, with more than 20 life-size dinosaur figures transforming parts of the Tierpark into a prehistoric adventure trail. Due to its great popularity with visitors, the Dinoworld Berlin exhibition is set to remain at the Tierpark for another year.

“It’s been wonderful to see how excited visitors of all ages are about the world of dinosaurs,” says Zoo and Tierpark Director Dr Andreas Knieriem. “The Dinoworld Berlin exhibition reminds us all how beautiful, precious and fragile the diversity of life on our planet is, and that the survival of present-day animal species lies in our hands.”

Spinosaurus, Triceratops, T. rex and friends will continue to inspire fear and awe at Tierpark Berlin until Halloween 2024. And Dino fans can still purchase the special Dino Ticket for an even more in-depth prehistoric experience. The ticket includes admission to the Tierpark and an exclusive magazine designed especially for the exhibition. The 50-page Dinoworld companion contains lots of fascinating facts, interactive puzzles, interviews with scientists, and much more. Dino Tickets are available for a discounted price from the online shop. For further information, visit www.tierpark-berlin.de/tickets.

    Background:

The Dinoworld Berlin exhibition features 20 life-size dinosaur figures. These reproductions, which weigh several tonnes, not only visually resemble their living “ancestors” in every detail, they are also able to replicate their movements and sounds. They are accompanied by informative signs that highlight the characteristic features of the individual dinosaurs and draw comparisons with present-day wildlife. Budding palaeontologists can test their skills at excavation sites, and a close encounter with a T. rex makes for special family photos.

The Tierpark’s dinosaur exhibition was created in collaboration with American palaeontologist “Dino Don” Lessem, an internationally renowned writer and dinosaur expert who was hired as a scientific advisor for Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster Jurassic Park. Some of the dinosaurs on display at the Tierpark were previously shown at Zoo Leipzig. Others have joined the exhibition from shows in the United States. Don explains his fascination with bringing these prehistoric reptiles back to life: “The Dinoworld exhibition brings home just how big dinosaurs really were – the mightiest creatures to ever roam the Earth. There is nothing like the feeling of awe you get when you see a 25-metre-long animal. It awakens the inner child in all of us.” Tierpark Berlin is only the second location in Germany after Zoo Leipzig to exhibit Dino Don’s remarkable dinosaurs.

The alarming mass extinction of species that the Earth is experiencing today threatens the very balance of nature. Loss of species endangers our planet’s biodiversity, ecosystems, and ultimately human life, as it has a negative impact on food chains and ecological stability. Currently, there are more than 150,300 species on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Over 42,100 of those are threatened with extinction, including 41 percent of amphibians, 27 percent of mammals, and 13 percent of birds.
