While January is traditionally dominated by news about rising prices and increasing costs, the Berlin Zoological Gardens are deliberately sending a different message at the start of the new year. There will be no increase in admission prices for Zoo Berlin, Aquarium Berlin, or Tierpark Berlin. In addition, as a sign of social solidarity and as a thank-you to the people of Berlin, Tierpark Berlin invites all visitors aged 65 and over to enjoy free admission throughout February 2026. The campaign is supported by the Berliner Morgenpost and 105‘5 Spreeradio.
“Especially in challenging times, it is important to us to give something back,” emphasizes Tierpark and Zoo Director Dr. Andreas Knieriem. “With this campaign, we want to say thank you to Berlin. Tierpark is a place for all generations and has always relied on the strong support of the people of Berlin. In the past, this solidarity was vital for the Tierpark’s survival, and it will remain so in the future.” Free admission applies to all guests aged 65 and over on all days in February 2026. To avoid waiting times on site, Tierpark Berlin recommends booking free tickets online in advance. Tickets will also be available at the ticket counters, although waiting times may occur. When redeeming the ticket, a photo ID showing proof of age must be presented.
With its spacious park landscape and wide variety of animal species, Tierpark Berlin offers ideal conditions for an enjoyable winter walk — whether alone or together with grandchildren. “I would be delighted if our invitation encourages many people who have not yet visited us to come to Tierpark with the whole family. You quickly discover that our Tierpark offers special experiences in every season,” Knieriem adds. For this campaign, even the popular Tierpark train will be ‘woken from hibernation’: every Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m., it will depart for a special 60-minute round trip on a new route, accompanied by live commentary from a guide. Tickets are limited and available in Tierpark Berlin’s online shop. The Kakadu terrace café will also open on weekends in February as an exception.
The campaign is also expressly supported by political leaders in view of its positive economic impact. “When Tierpark Berlin attracts more visitors during a traditionally quiet period, everyone benefits in the end: the park itself, local gastronomy, and the district. That is exactly what this campaign is about,” emphasizes Senator for Finance Stefan Evers. Winter is generally the quietest season at Tierpark Berlin. However, many animals remain active during winter. Cold-tolerant species such as polar bears and moose can be observed outdoors all year round, while heat-loving animals can be visited in the Rainforest House, Giraffe House, or Monkey House. Tierpark Berlin is currently open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with last admission at 3:30 p.m. Berlin’s winter school holidays also take place from February 2 to 8, 2026.
Tip: On weekends in February, the Tierpark railway sets off on special trips. During the 60-minute ride, a guide provides live commentary about the animal residents along the route and shares fascinating facts and stories. This tour offers a special experience for both young and old! Tickets are strictly limited.
