BOUNCING BABIES ON THE SAVANNAH

For a few weeks now, three inquisitive Thomson’s gazelle calves have been livening things up on our African Savannah.

Females Vera and Clara and young buck Wim were born this July and August. They share their home with the rest of the 12-strong Thomson’s gazelle herd as well as some North African ostriches, white-bearded wildebeest, East African oryxes and Grévy’s zebras.

Did you know? The gestation period for Thomson’s gazelles is around five and a half months, and the newborns spend the first weeks of their life lying down. They only become strong enough to walk with the herd at around three weeks of age.
