Baby zebra goes exploring

A baby Hartmann’s mountain zebra made its first appearance a few days ago at the entrance to the African Savannah.

The female foal was born on 14 June and can now be seen tottering around her habitat – staying close to her mother’s side for the time being.

The mountain zebras share their habitat with Grévy’s zebras. It is easy to tell the two species apart: mountain zebras are smaller than Grévy’s zebras, they have only wide stripes, and they sport a dewlap – a loose fold of skin hanging from their throat. Stop by the Savannah and see for yourself!
