LOOK WHO’S BACK

Its double row of huge back plates make Stegosaurus unmistakeable – even if scientists still aren’t entirely sure what their purpose was.

It’s possible that the bony plates served to regulate the animal’s temperature on hot days, or they may have been intended to impress potential mates.

Stegosaurus had a massive body nine metres long and four metres high, but its brain was only around the size of a golf ball – which is why this dinosaur has the reputation of being a rather simple fellow.
