The IUCN Primate Specialist Group Section on Small Apes of the World Conservation Union IUCN has therefore declared 2015 the Year of Gibbons. The aim of the campaign is to draw attention to the critical situation of the gibbons and to collect donations for the conservation of this primate family.
The small tailless monkeys with long arms feed on mainly fruit in their native Southeast Asia and are therefore characterized as important seed distributors. They live monogamously in small family groups and most species are characterized by their distinctive duet songs, which serve to bond the pair and to protect their territory.
Tierpark Berlin is holding a competition to win a "Meet and Greet" session with monkey curator Dr. Andreas Pauly to mark the International Gibbon Day on 24 October 2015. The winner will gain an exclusive insight into the life of the white-handed gibbons. To take part in the prize draw, send answers to the following questions to: fuehrungen@tierpark-berlin.de
The winner will be drawn out from all the correct entries. Entry closes on 21.10.2015. The "Meet and Greet" session with Dr. Pauly will take place on 24.10.2015.
