Binturong

Arctictis binturong

Quite a tail

The binturong’s characteristic long prehensile tail helps it to balance, and it can even use it to grip branches when climbing. Binturongs are the largest species in the family of viverrids – slender cat-like carnivores with long tails and short legs.

A smelly message

Binturongs mark their territory with a secretion from the anal glands. They use this scent to communicate with fellow binturongs.
