Tiger Girl Alisha Moves To Eberswalde

March 10th and the time is upon us: Armur tiger Alisha moves into her new home in the Eberswalde Zoo.

Visitors to the Tierpark Berlin have until March 9th to say goodbye to Amur tiger Alisha. The 12 week old tiger cub then temporarily moves to her new home at the Eberswalde Zoo. The five-month-old Amur tiger Dragan is already waiting for Alisha there. But until then, the tiger girl can be seen daily from 12pm - 2:45pm at the Alfred-Brehm-Haus in the Tierpark.

On the morning of March 10th, Alisha, who is now almost ten kilograms, will join her zoo keeper Angelika Berkling and curator Christian Kern on the trip to Eberswalde in her accustomed transport box. The tigers will be introduced to one another immediately following arrival at Eberswalde Zoo, depending on the situation and behavior of the two young animals. "Alisha might react somewhat anxiously to begin with due to Dragan having a significant size advantage over Alisha. We basically expect that the young tiger cubs will have a good understanding of each other. They just enjoy the company of a playmate at this age," reveals zoo curator Christian Kern. They will probably spend the first two nights in separate sleeping boxes and only play with each other during the daytime under the supervision of the keepers. Both endangered Amur tigers are expected to return to the Tierpark Berlin in May 2015.

Alisha was born in the Tierpark Berlin on December 10th 2014. Unfortunately the cub's mother Aurora (5 years old) didn't have a sufficient amount of milk and Alisha had to be nurtured by the keepers using a bottle. The same fate was bestowed upon Dragan who was born in Eberswalde Zoo on October 7th 2014 - he is also being brought up by the zookeepers.

Press advisory: There can be no media-accompaniment due to safety reasons and to ensure unhindered transport. We shall keep you up to date with Alisha's arrival and familiarization in Eberswalde Zoo over the coming week.
