World Cheetah Day

Three male Northeast African cheetahs live at Tierpark Berlin – Rufaa, and the two brothers Gambela and Manova. To mark World Cheetah Day today, we are sharing some footage of Rufaa’s first encounter with the brothers.

Cheetahs are the fastest land animals in the world, but they are short-distance sprinters rather than long-distance athletes. When hunting, they can reach speeds of up to 102 km/h. Most big cats are solitary creatures, but male cheetahs often get together in a loose coalition. The IUCN Red List classifies the cheetah as “Vulnerable”.

Visitors can spot our cheetah trio in their outdoor habitat by the Alfred Brehm building.
