#InternationalRedPandaDay

Time for a “gender reveal”

Our baby red panda is a girl! On 3 July, animal keepers discovered that female red panda Shine had given birth to two tiny cubs.

A few weeks later, we now know that one of them successfully made it through the precarious early days. Veterinarian Dr Andreas Pauly has given the baby her first check-up and reported that she is in excellent health. She weighed in at 1.1 kilograms and received a chip implant that functions as a kind of ID card for endangered animals.

Tierpark visitors will be able to see the new red panda once she overcomes her shyness and begins to independently explore the outside habitat. Currently, however, she still feels safest inside her comfy, familiar den.
