Ambassadors for species conservation

Today is International Polar Bear Day – a fitting occasion to direct attention at these threatened Arctic bears.

The Tierpark’s polar bears Hertha and Tonja are ambassadors for their fellows in the wild, reminding us of the need to protect species and fight climate change. Polar bears are classified as “Vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Habitat loss in particular poses a threat to the huge white bears. Global warming is melting the polar ice caps, making it increasingly difficult for polar bears to find food and a mate.

To mark this special day, we have introduced an additional treat for young polar bear fans: anyone who purchases or renews an annual pass for the Tierpark online will receive an adorable cuddly polar bear toy when collecting their card at the ticket desks –while stocks last! https://shop.tierpark-berlin.de/en/categories/8
