Welcome, Tamilo! We are happy to announce that our Goodfellow’s tree kangaroo Nunsi now has some male companionship. There may be a 13-year age gap between the two, but hopes are still high that they will get along well enough to mate. The Goodfellow’s tree kangaroo is an endangered species, with only 60 animals currently living in human care around the world, so it’s important to make the most of any chance for offspring. Nunsi has already met several possible suitors throughout the course of her long life, but has not yet fallen pregnant. Tamilo, on the other hand, is completely inexperienced.
Over the coming weeks we will carefully introduce Nunsi and Tamilo to one another before finally organising a first proper date. Although the likelihood of a new baby tree kangaroo is slight given Nunsi’s advanced age, Tamilo’s arrival represents a last chance for her to experience the joy of motherhood. It’s certainly worth a try!
